  13. I have an A3000 with the following setup:

  15.  52Mb internal SCSI id 0 
  16. 340Mb internal SCSI id 6 end of internal chain
  17.  
  18.  40Mb external SCSI id 3
  19.       Tape     SCSI id 4
  20.  40Mb external SCSI id 1
  21.       CDROM    SCSI id 2 end of external chain
  22.  
  23. NOTE: None of the termination resistor packs have been removed.
  24.       All the devices seem to work properly

  26. 1)I was under the impression that SCSI buses required the all the termination
  27. resistor packs be removed except the last one in the chain. Is this required
  28. or is it just a recommendation?  What are the issues of not removing them?

  30. 2)My machine has a separate power supply for the external devices. Without all
  31. devices being powered up the machine will not boot.  However with the tape 
  32. drive and one SCSI harddrive connected my machine can boot without these
  33. devices being powered up.  The same holds true for the CDROM and one harddrive.
  34. What might be causing this anomaly?  Is there a way to get it so my machine
  35. can boot regardless of whether the external devices are powered up or not?
